Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Do you have any memory of what you used to be very good at? So many dreams, hope. Yet, there is a point in life when we all stopped dreaming and shifted our focus on what is real. Reality is the biggest killer of dreams. It brings you back to responsibilities, cares, and what you “should be doing.” We’ve gone as far as praising people with:
“She’s got a good head on her shoulders.”
“He has both feet planted on the ground.”
Listen. Somewhere within the layers of all your responsibilities, the busyness of life, you lost track of adventure. Somewhere between the bills to be paid, the college assignments, and work performance reviews lies a dream. It is a dream that went dormant because you put it to rest. You told that dream that reality is more important because it allows you to function. I mean, responsible people go and do. Dreamers are broke, unemployed, unstable, and love writing in blogs like this one (ha!).
But, what if I told you that those dreams were put in there by God Himself? Sounds corny and all too new age for you? I hope that I can elaborate in a way that makes sense to you:
God made you purposefully
Psalm 139:13-14 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Jeremiah 1:5 ““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
1 Corinthians 3:16 “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”
Luke 12:7 “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
You are a pretty big deal, and God made you on purpose. He knows everything about you. Luke 12:7 shows you how much God loved you. This may be hard to digest, especially if you have committed a heinous crime or if someone committed a crime against you or someone you love.
How could it be?
How can God love horrible people?
…He just does because while they are who they are, the Lord sees them as what they could be. Even if they are not what they could be now.
HOLD UP, I have to squeeze this one in here:
JOHN 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
God Himself gave you dreams
There’s a catch. You see? There are things that you may want that do not come from God. However, God has given you authority to test these things so that you may know whether you should pursue them. This even applies to goals and dreams that you developed as a child. Remember that your desires, wishes, wants, dreams are shaped by the environment, your experiences, and how you process this information. You must test these things so that you know whether they are from God, and not lies from the enemy.
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
James 1:17 “ Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
However, God also encourages us to pursue goals and dreams while seeking Him first. There is a holy protection that can take place in your life as you give to God that dream, and set yourself to use the gifts that your Creator gave you so that you could become who you were meant to be.
God wants you to succeed
The Lord will guide your steps, He will provide protection and sustenance as you move forward in the journey. As I write this, I am asking myself “why am I not applying all of these things?” The Holy Spirit has a powerful way to revealing things. Ever had one of those moments when by giving someone else advice, you discovered the solution to a problem that you are facing? A problem that you have not been able to resolve, yet the solution seemed to be within you? Yes, the Holy Spirit is an amazing teacher.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Listen, there are times when nothing that you do works out. Nothing that you think will change perspectives. This is where I tell you to go supernatural. BELIEVE that God has your interests at hand. There are times when God will choose to be very quiet, and you may feel as if He forgot about you. You may feel that God simply has better things to do. You have no idea how many times I said this myself. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.
There’s plenty of God for the everyone. Don’t you ever put your needs aside because you feel that others need Christ more than you. We ALL need Him. Starving children, abused men and women, lonely housewives, executives, pastors, rich and poor people, Buddhists, farmers, ETC. THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS HIM.
Don’t fall into the enemy’s lie that there’s others than need Him more than you. That is a lie from the very pits of hell.
Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Matthew 6:6-8 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”
